New York's percussionist Mark Nauseef (1953) combined Indonesian, Indian, African, rock, jazz and minimalist techniques on the exoteric Sura (january 1983), featuring the jazz supergroup with Steve Kuhn on keyboards, Markus Stockhausen on horns, Trilok Gurtu on percussion, David Torn on guitar and a cornucopia of exotic instruments, and on the solo tour de force of Wun Wun (may 1984), with rock vocalist Jack Bruce, a timbric feast at times reminiscent of avantgarde electronic music. Nauseef partnered with Serbian guitarist Miroslav Tadic for a series of notably The Snake Music (june 1993), that featured Bruce, Markus Stockhausen, guitarist David Torn, German saxophonist Wolfgang Puschnig and Walter Quintus on computers, and Still Light (1997), a trio with German reed player Markus Stockhausen. Nauseef also tried to coin "sufi-jazz" on two collaborations with Turkish ney virtuoso Kudsi Erguner: Ottomania (1999) and Islam Blues (2001), which also featured Vietnamese guitarist Nguyen Le, French contrabassist Renaud Garcia-Fons and Turkish singers and musicians.

Dark also released Tamna Voda (august 1988).

Mark Nauseef's partnership with guitarist Miroslav Tadic led to a number of world chamber music recordings: Bracha (may 1988 - CMP, 1989), a quartet with David Philipson on bamboo flutes and John Bergamo on percussion; Let's Be Generous (august 1990 - CMP, 1991), a quartet with Joachim Kuhn on keyboards and Tony Newton on bass; The Snake Music (june 1993 - CMP, 1994), with Jack Bruce (bass and vocals), Markus Stockhausen (trumpet), David Torn (guitar), Wolfgang Puschnig (sax) and Walter Quintus (digitalia); Old Country (MA, 1996), a trio with Howard Levy on diatonic harmonicas, ocarinas, jaw harp and clavichord; Still Light (march 1993 - MA, 1997), a trio with German reed player Markus Stockhausen; Loose Wires (june 1995 - Enja, 1997), a trio with tuba player Michel Godard; etc.

Ottomania (may 1998 - Act, 1999) was Nauseef's first collaboration with Turkish ney virtuoso Kudsi Erguner, attempting a "sufi-jazz" fusion. It was followed by Islam Blues (Act, 2001), which also featured Vietnamese guitarist Nguyen Le, French contrabassist Renaud Garcia-Fons and Turkish singers and musicians. Nauseef improvised with gongs, bells and wood, joined by Kudsi Erguner's ney and Markus Stockhausen's reeds, on Gazing Point (Rent A Dog, 2002), inspired by yoga practices.

Evident (may 2002 - 482, 2004) is a duet with bassist Joelle Leandre.

Near Nadir (august 2010) documents a live collaboration between percussionist Mark Nauseef, Ikue Mori (on electronics), Evan Parker (on soprano sax), and bassist and composer Bill Laswell.

All In All In All (january 2001), released 17 years later, features Mark Nauseef on percussion and electronics, Arthur Jarvinen (glockenspiel, chromatic harmonica, analogue electronics), Sylvie Courvoisier (piano, prepared piano), Tony Oxley (percussion), Pat Thomas (cassette player, electronics, electric keyboard), Miroslav Tadic (guitars), Walter Quintus (real time processing, conducting) and Bill Laswell (bass, field recordings, electronics).
