Canadian pianist Paul Plimley took Cecil Taylor's exuberant style into the 1990s, while wedding the acrobatic and intense aspects of it with atmospheric and pensive threads.
The similarities with the master declined rapidly from When Silence Pulls (november 1990), a trio session with bassist Lisle Ellis and drummer Andrew Cyrille, to the impressionistic piano vignettes of Everything in Stages (april 1995) to the duets with bassist Barry Guy of Sensology (november 1995) to the wildly eclectic and virtuoso parade of Safe-Crackers (january 1999), another trio session.
Complicite (may 2000) was mainly devoted to duers with altoist John Oswald.
