- NOTE: Thunderstorms, hailstorms and snowstorms become more frequent in october on the Eastern Sierra, in the Yosemite high country and throughout Kings Canyon. Temperatures drop rapidly, especially at night. And days get shorter. In other words, it can get rather dangerous on the mountains. Thus my hiking season (for "epic" day hikes at high elevation) usually ends in september (See A suggested calendar).
