Maham Konate's percussion ensemble Farafina, founded in Burkina Faso in 1973 but relocated to Switzerland, delved into African polyrhythms on Bolomakote (1988) and adopted a jazzy, westernized sound on Faso Denou (1993), but always relying on foundations of balafon xylophone, djembe drums, tama talking drum, flute (and vocals).
