Thomas Leer
pioneered the idea of making music in one's bedroom using
drum-machines and electronic keyboards on his The Bridge (1979), a
collaboration with avantgarde composer Robert Rental, that featured both songs
(Monochrome Days)
and sonic experiments.
Subsequent EPs and albums kept refining the idea, but Leer was fundamentally
a limited songwriter
Don't, 1981; Letter From America, 1981; All About You, 1982;
Soul Gypsy, 1982; International, 1985).
