Strapping Fieldhands is Bob Malloy and a gang of blasphemous
Philadelphia musicians who sabotage the folk tradition.
The first EP, The Demiurge (Silbreeze, 1992),
is a serious take on Appalachian folk music
but the following singles,
Future Pastoral, Stacey Donnelley and Sun Sun,
already showed a perverted knack for demented romps.
The early singles will be collected on
Gobs On The Midway (Silbreeze, 1997).
Atonal guitars and grotesque vocals rule over
Discus (Omphalos, 1994), and
goofy, retarded Holy Modal Rounders numbers such as
Boo Hoo Hoo and Luminous Bodies
highlight the band's folly.
More EPs inflate the discography:
In The Pineys (Silbreeze, 1995) contains
He's Right,
The Caul (New Sound, 1995) is little more than a preview.
Unfortunately, Wattle & Daub (Shangri-La, 1996) shows a sudden
dearth of inspiration.
After a five-year hiatus,
The Third Kingdom (Omphalos, 2002) is a more convincing summary
of their acid-rock.
