Nic Dalton is the leader and main composer of
Australian-American supergroup Godstar.
The best moments of Sleeper (Taang, 1993), featuring
Evan Dando (Lemonheads),
are the ones that evoke the
naive punk-pop of Fastbacks
(the miniature-size Ersatz.
But mostly Godstar indulges in third-hand pop refrains
(Everything You Give Me Breaks,
Had the Time of My Life,
the tender Single)
that are merely tedious.
The trancey dissonant Wigram and the
surreal, psychedelic Something Unplanned are not enough to redeem
the album.
