Nic Dalton is the leader and main composer of
Australian-American supergroup Godstar.
The best moments of Sleeper (Taang, 1993), featuring
Evan Dando (Lemonheads),
are the ones that evoke the
naive punk-pop of Fastbacks
(the miniature-size Ersatz.
But mostly Godstar indulges in third-hand pop refrains
(Everything You Give Me Breaks,
Had the Time of My Life,
the tender Single)
that are merely tedious.
The trancey dissonant Wigram and the
surreal, psychedelic Something Unplanned are not enough to redeem
the album.
The EP Lie Down Forever (Taang, 1994) and the album Coastal (Half A Cow, 1995), containing Out Of My Mind, failed to improve over a dejavu model. |

Nic Dalton è il leader e autore principale del supergruppo australiano Godstar. I migliori momenti di Sleeper (Taang, 1993), con Evan Dando dei Lemonheads, sono quelli che evocano il punk-pop naif dei Fastbacks (la miniatura Ersatz). Ma perlopiù i Godstar indulgono in ritornelli pop di terza mano (Everything You Give Me Breaks, Had the Time of My Life, la tenera Single) che risultano quantomeno noiosi. L’estatica e dissonante Wigram e la surreale, psichedelica Something Unplanned non bastano a redimere l’album. Lie Down Forever (Taang, 1994) e l’album Coastal (Half a Cow, 1995), contenente Out of My Mind, non riuscirono a migliorare il loro modello di già sentito. |
