Vancouver's Smugglers concot a wild mixture of
punk-rock, garage-rock, rock and roll and rhythm'n'blues.
The 10" At Marineland (Nardwuar, 1991) is exuberant garage-surf
in the Fleshtones tradition:
Pebble Beach, Jailbait, Calgarian's Don't Dance.
A revamped line-up recorded the vastly more melodic
Atlanta Whiskey Flats (Popllama, 1992) that veers towards the punk-pop
canon (Fun In The USA).
The first two records were later collected with assorted rarities on
In The Hall of Fame (Popllama, 1993).
Wet Pants Club (Radiation, 1993), with the peppy hook of
Paper Doll, the EP
Party Party Party Pooper (Mint, 1994), with
Smuggler King, and the EP
Senor Pantsdown (Rock and Roll, 1995)
transitioned the band towards a more mature (but no less hyper) sound.
That progression led to Selling The Sizzle (Mint, 1996), a relatively
professional album that boasts full-fledge guitar attack from
Nick Thomas and Dave Carswell and improved vocalizing by singer
Grant Lawrence.
Serve And Protect, Especially You, She Ain't No Egyptian
are less retro than their songs used to be, less ebullient and more personal.

Una formazione ritoccata registra Atlanta Whiskey Flats (Popllama, 1992), decisamente più melodico, che vira verso il canone punk-pop (Fun In The USA). I primi due dischi saranno poi raccolti insieme a rarità assortite su In The Hall of Fame (Popllama, 1993).
Wet Pants Club (Radiation, 1993), con la vivace ed accattivante Paper Doll, l’EP Party Party Party Pooper (Mint, 1994), con Smuggler King, e l’EP Senor Pantsdown (Rock and Roll, 1995) vedono la transizione della band verso un suono più maturo (sebbene non meno adrenalinico).
