Sugar Plant is a duo from Tokyo (female singer and male guitarist) that plays
slow, mellow psychedelic rock in the vein of
Galaxie 500.
The single Cloudy (Turntable, 1994) and the album
Hiding Place (Pop Narcotic, 1995) offer mildly decadente, low-key
ballads that seem to rehash over and over again the third Velvet Underground
album.
After another competent imitation of Galazy 500 (Cage Of The Sun,
on the eponymous 1996 EP), the album
After After Hours (World Domination, 1997)
has crowned their ascent in the firmament of rock balladry
with humble yet elusive threnodies like Licorice and
Behind The Door.
