First Aid Kit, the
Swedish duo of teenage sisters Johanna and Klara Soderberg,
debuted in the vein of old-fashioned folkish singer-songwriters
with the timid EP Drunken Trees (2008). Its magic mostly relied on
their charming vocal harmonies, that remained the main attraction of
the amateurish The Big Black & the Blue (2010) and
The Lion's Roar (2012), professionally produced by the
Bright Eyes' Mike Mogis and including the
single Emmylou
(dedicated to Emmylou Harris),
King of the World
(a faithful imitation of Gram Parsons by
guest Conor Oberst), and
The Lion's Roar (but also bogged down by too much filler).
