Michael Nau and Whitney McGraw formed Cotton Jones Basket Ride that
debuted with the EPs The Cotton Jones Basket Ride (Quite Scientific, 2007) and The Archery (Quite Scientific, 2008).
Their first album, The River Strumming (St. Ives, 2008) was
followed by the mediocre Paranoid Cocoon (Suicide Squeeze, 2009)
in a style that was reminiscent of melodic psychedelia of the Sixties and
cowpunk of the 1980s, something halfway between the Doors and the X.
