Montreal's Plants And Animals, fronted by
debuted with the
lush mostly acoustic chamber psychedelic pop of
Parc Avenue (2008),
each song a busy, moody and whimsical multi-faceted micro-suite
(Bye Bye Bye, Mercy and especially Faerie Dance and
New Kind of Love).
That sound, however, was just a stripped-down version of what used to be called
MOR ("middle of the road") in the 1970s, and that's precisely what happened
on La La Land (2010) to songs like American Idol and
Jeans Jeans Jeans.
The End of That (2012) felt like a solo album by Warren Spicer in a
really bad mood. One has to wait until the end to find a song meant as music
not as personal confession: Runaways.
