Rogue Wave, the project of
Oakland-based singer-songwriter Zach Schwartz,
ran the gamut from acoustic folk to rock'n'roll on the naive
Out Of The Shadow (Responsive, 2003 - Subpop, 2004).
On the other hand, Descended Like Vultures (2005) sounded like yet another offering of mainstream folk-rock and power-pop in an age in which it was
getting harder and harder to come up with a melody that didn't sound trite and
with an arrangement that didn't sound dejavu (largely the work of Antenna's multi-instrumentalist Patrick Spurgeon).
Asleep at Heaven's Gate (Brushfire, 2007) and
Permalight (2010)
contained even more generic pop fodder.
