Joshua Sabin, based in Edinburgh, debuted with
Terminus Drift (Subtext, 2017), that combines
traditional urban field recordings with electromagnetic field recordings
(the latter inspired by Christina Kubisch's "electrical walks"). They mostly exhibit a ghostly and dramatic quality, with
a peak of angst in Memory Trace.
The funereal droning of Eki is particularly effective.
Rarely have field recordings been so humanized.
Inspired by the psychoacoustic research of Rytis Ambrazevicius into Lithuanian folk genre "sutartine",
Sutarti (2019) combines
archival folk recordings from Lithuania with field recordings of Lithuanian forests.
The resulting compositions feel like angelic cosmic music.
