Gregory Markopoulos (USA, 1928) debuted with the trilogy Du Sang, de la Volupte' et de la Mort (1948).

The Illiac Passion (1967), whose soundtrack consists of creatives of Thoreau's translation of "Prometheus Bound", revisits the myth of Prometheus.

In 1967 Markopoulos moved to Europe. Bliss (1967) consists in an exploration of a curch and its frescoes. Similarly, Gammelion (1968) is a one-hour tour of a castle in Italy.
