Telugu director
Srisaila Sri Rajamouli (India, 1973) was one of the most successful filmmakers
of Indian cinema during the 2000s and 2010s.
His magic formula was refined via
Student No 1 (2001),
Simhadri (2003),
Sye/ Challenge (2004),
Chatrapathi (2005),
and
Yamadonga/ Thief of Yama (2007).
Vikramarkudu (2006) became so popular that it was
remade in Kannada as Veera Madakari (2009), in Tamil as Siruthai (2011), in Hindi as Rowdy Rathore (2012) and in Bengali as Bikram Singha (2012).
Magadheera/ The Hero (2009), the most expensive Telugu film yet,
his first major collaboration with his father, the screenwriter Viswa Vijayendra Prasad,
Maryada Ramanna (2010) is an unlikely remake of
Buster Keaton’s Our Hospitality (1923).
Eega/ The Fly (2012) is perhaps his best.
The collaboration with his father Viswa Vijayendra Prasad continued to yielded blockbusters: Baahubali - The Beginning (2015) and
Baahubali 2 - The Conclusion (2017), as well as
RRR (2022).
