Jerome Cooper was the drummer since 1971 of the Revolutionary Ensemble alongside Leroy Jenkins and Sirone. After the He released the solo albums Root Assumptions (april 1978), the live The Unpredictability Of Predictability (july 1979), the live From There to Hear (may 1998), A Magical Approach (Mutable, 2010), that collects a 2007 recording and an old piece from 1978.

He also collaborated on the live Position 3 6 9 (april 1977) with Frank Lowe and Kalaparush Maurice McIntyre, the live For The People (may 1979) with Oliver Lake, Outer And Interactions (february 1987), with Joseph Jarman, violinist Jason Kao Hwang and bassist William Parker, Alone, Together, Apart (april 2002) with vocalist Thomas Buckner, etc.

He played on Anthony Braxton's New York, Fall 1974, Lester Bowie's Fast Last!, Cecil Taylor's It Is In The Brewing Luminous, Roland Kirk's Dog Years in the Fourth Ring.
