British blind pianist George Shearing (1919) represented pop-jazz at its most
melodious. His quintet (piano, guitar, bass, drums and Margorie Hyams'
vibraphone) scored huge hits with Harry Warren's September In The Rain february 1949) and his own Lullaby Of Birdland (july 1952). His best album was probably
Spell (april 1955). He was the epitome of the "light" chamber sound.
