A number of experts collaborated on this colossal book. The most valuable part is the one devoted to the Soviet Union from the beginning of the revolution to the 1950s. The book not only provides a detailed and gruesome list of atrocities committed by the Soviet regime, but it also serves as a chronicle of those mysterious four decades, that were enveloped in secrecy until the fall of the Soviet Union. The Soviet archives have revealed or confirmed a lot of facts, and this is one book where one can find an updated version of the events. The parts on China and other countries are much less interesting because one can find more detailed and accurate histories of each and every country or region of the world.
