This is an addendum to the page on internships.
There are many (boring and time-consuming) tasks for which i don't have time.
I wish i had a secretary, but i cannot afford to hire one.
Depending on your skills, your interest/hobbies and your field of study, these are the most urgent chores for which i need help:
- Help me digitize my CD collection (only if you live in the Bay Area - i don't want to ship CDs). I have several thousands and i am terrified that soon they may stop working. The CDs have been the worst investment of my life: they are dying one after the other. I desperately need to digitize them. (Note that LPs much older than CDs still play perfectly well).
- If you are local in the Bay Area, help me organize and stage the LASER series of talks by scientists and artists.
- Contact artists and producers who are still alive to find out the recording and release dates of of all the albums that rated 7/10 and higher since 2008.
See what Rocco has been doing for 1960-2007.
- Create a Scaruffi.com app for Android and iPhone that displays my contents in user-friendly manner
- Create a follow up to "Synthesis", another book of my poems (see here), essays (new essays are here) and pictures (my own pictures), another "book of nothingness"
- Read all the bios of bands of the 80s and 90s and find the noteworthy albums that need more detailed reviews (especially heavy metal)
- Add a tiny public-domain picture to all the writers listed in my timelines of literature with a "+". Ditto for all the musicians listed at the classical music page.
- Add the English translation of all the titles of novels and poems in my timelines of literature (in most cases i only used the original title of novels, plays and poems)
- Proof-edit my texts, especially the Italian-to-English translations provided by volunteers and/or created with DeepL
- Create templates for bio pages for all the painters listed in my list, with titles, dates and public-domain pictures of their best paintings.
- Create galleries of iconic stills from the films of the filmmakers starting with the ones who top the "best of" decade lists and starting with the early days of cinema (those that are already done are listed here but many of the classics like Lang and Hitchcock need a lot more research)
- Create lists by genre of cinema, like the right column of https://www.scaruffi.com/cinema/scifi.html - Start with the best films of each decade: https://www.scaruffi.com/cinema/chro010.html and https://www.scaruffi.com/cinema/chro000.html and https://www.scaruffi.com/cinema/chro990.html and https://www.scaruffi.com/cinema/chro980.html etc until https://www.scaruffi.com/cinema/chrono.html For example gather all the films rated at least 7.4 and then write next to each film the "genre". Then it would be easy to generate the lists by genre.
- Compose and run a monthly magazine with articles taken from my website: music, art, cinema, history, science...
- Music. Check all the new releases of artists mentioned on my website that i have missed.
- Rearrange pictures of the travel section so that a) the thumbnails are bigger and b) the presentation is improved (maybe scroll down rather than thumbnails)
- Identify all the books of science fiction in my timelines of literature
- Copy my Tumblr blog to www.scaruffi.com/cultart.html (exact same look and feel)
- Compose, edit and e-publish ebooks from the many webpages at scaruffi.com (e.g., Hiking in California,
A Visual History of Knowledge,
A Tour of the World, etc). Click here for more details.
- Add to www.scaruffi.com/birthday the birthdates of all the writers mentioned with a + in my lists of best novels, best poetry and best theater, and of all the filmmakers who made a film mentioned in my list of best films
- Add the month to the history timelines (i was originally listing only the year of an event)
- Restyle sections of the website. So far all attempts have failed because they were too ambitious. When someone restyled only the pages of excerpts from best novels, he succeeded. For example, restyle only the music bios according to something like this style.
- Proof-edit and possibly rearrange the second volume of my History of Silicon Valley
- Translate italian texts on films and music into english (requires a working understanding of Italian, using DeepL to make the drafts, and excellent English language skills). Click here for a list of pages that require the translation (avoid the very short texts that will probably be replaced with more comprehensive texts in the near future)
- Biographies of Silicon Valley protagonists and companies, later extending to other socioeconomic regions of the USA
- Literature, cinema, art, music, science: add small 200x200 pixel public-domain pictures to the bio of each writer, filmmaker, artist, scientist, musician
- Publish a follow-up to my book of poetry, philosophy and photography (requires Photoshop and Editing) - the new articles
are here
- Find ways to establish two-way communication with the audience (requires web programming skills), in particular a way for readers to post their comments on my reviews of rock and jazz music
- Proof-read my articles on politics (requires good English language skills)
- Translate my old award-winning Italian poetry into English (requires an excellent understanding of Italian and excellent English language skills, and i will pay something for this)
- Select the most beautiful pictures of my world travels and compose an appropriate presentation
- Re-organize about 20,000 pictures of the world so that it's easy to flip through them
- Create a metaverse space (on Roblox and/or Fortnite and/or Decentraland) for my writings.
- Make tiktok videos of my content
- Create a cryptocurrency for my website that will be used for cultural activities only, i.e. "scarufficoin".
- Create NFTs out of my content (you'll get a share if they sell)
- If you live near me, digitize the thousands of pictures that i received over the years from musicians and labels, and digitize all my CDs before they start falling apart.
- Music-related: See this page for a detailed list.
