Saturday May 6 hike

See Del Valle Park to Sunol Park via Rose Peak and Murietta Falls for a description.

Map:

(Sunol and DelValle are south of 580, east of 680) (Blue: one-way "long" hike, Pink: round-trip "short" hike)

Round-trip "short" hike: DelValle Park to at least Murietta Falls and back (about 2 hours to Murietta Falls)
  • Hassan from Tracy
  • Carol from Sunnyvale (85 & El Camino)
  • Perry from San Jose (87 & 85)
  • (maybe Jane from Union City)
These meet at DelValle park, Vallecitos trailhead, you decide what time. You decide how far into the trail you want to go. Then you come back the same way.

Hassan will bring two walkie talkies.

Directions to DelValle Park: From eastbound Interstate 580 at Livermore, take the North Livermore Avenue exit. Turn south and travel on North/South Livermore Road (this will turn into Tesla Road) to Mines Road. Turn right and drive about 5 kms south on Mines Road to Del Valle Road. Turn right and continue for 5 kms to the entrance to Del Valle Regional Park. Park at the south end of Del Valle Reservoir, which is close to the traithead.

If you are not sure how to get there, call the park (get the phone number from the website of the park). DO NOT trust my directions.

One-way "long" hike: One way hike from Sunol to Rose Peak to Murietta Falls to DelValle park (28-30 kms, about 8-10 hours depending on stops)
  • (Amy from San Francisco)
  • Bianca from San Francisco
  • Frank from Stanford
  • Sindy from San Francisco
  • piero from Redwood City
These meet at DelValle park, Vallecitos trailhead, 8:30am. They leave piero's car there. Then drive to Sunol. Hike from Sunol to DelValle. Drive back to Sunol in piero's car. Hike MUST end before 6pm because Sunol Park physically locks the gate at dusk. (Note: if more than 5 people do the long hike, then we need to leave two cars at DelValle Park, and we need two cars to go to Sunol Park, which means we need a total of four cars).

piero will bring three walkie talkies.

Directions to Sunol: take the Calaveras Rd exit off I-680 (Map), go east on Calaveras Rd, turn sort of left into Geary Road, pay at the ranger station (get a map!), then park (there's a parking lot on your left).

If you are not sure how to get there, call the park (get the phone number from the website of the park). DO NOT trust my directions.
