Esquerita (Eskew Reeder) was a South Carolina-born and New Orleans-based
pianist and singer, and originally a gospel performer, who invented the wild
piano and stage style popularized
by his friend Little Richard.
In 1958 Esquerita recorded the tracks that would appear on
Esquerita (Capitol, 1959) and tracks that would not appear until
the double-album Esquerita (Pathe Marconi).
Rockin' The Joint was probably his most successful single.
In the following years Esquerita recorded a handful of singles.
The 1965 sessions surfaced 22 years later on
Sock It To Me Baby (Bear Family).
Esquerita retired from the music scene in 1970 and died of AIDS in 1986.
