French singer-songwriter Gerard Manset debuted with an album that captured
the zeitgeist of the age of the student riots,
Animal on n'est Mal (1968). After a more commercial album, he penned the
ten-movement orchestral suite La Mort D'Orion (1970). He eventually
became a star with the best-selling Y'a une Route (1975), but then
returned to high-brow music with
the 15-minute 2870, off the "electronic" 2870 (1978),
and
Lumieres, off the austere lieder of Lumieres (1984).
