The Monks were formed by American soldiers stationed in Germany. They played
primitive and furious rock and roll, somewhere between the Kinks' You Really
Got Me and the punk-rock of ten years later. They wore monks clothes and
they shaved their heads. Their songs offered sociopolitical commentary worthy
of the Fugs.
Black Monk Time (Polydor, 1966 - Infinite Zero, 1997)
is one of the most formidable albums
of the mid 1960s. While the Beatles were singing "la-la yeah-yeah", the
Monks (self-proclaimed "anti-Beatles") scared crowds of well-behaved kids with
Drunken Maria, I Hate You, Shut Up, Complication.

Suonavano un rock and roll furioso e primitivo, qualcosa tra You Really
Black Monk Time (Polydor, 1966 - Infinite
Zero, 1997) e' uno degli album piu' formidabili degli anni 60. Mentre i
Maria, I Hate You,
Shut Up, Complication.
