Gilbert Artmann was a French musician who formed the band Lard Free to play an electronic rock'n'roll similar to Heldon's. They recorded Unnamed (1972), released only in 1998, Lard Free (1973), I'm Around About Midnight (1975), Spirale Malax (1977).

He also invented Urban Sax, an ensemble of percussion and (many many) saxophones, that used minimalist repetition a` la Terry Riley as the main compositional technique. They released Urban Sax 1 (1977), Urban Sax 2 (1978), Paradise Lost (1982), a collaboration with musique concrete pioneer Pierre Henry, Fraction Sur Le Temps (1985), Spiral (1990), To the Happy Few (1993), Urban Sax 93 (1993).
