Discharge, a radical group in the vein of
Crass,
stepped into the spotlight in 1980 with a series of anarchist anthems published on their EP (including Fight Back, Decontrol, and Why).
Their reputation exploded with the 1982 album Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing (Clay), particularly with the anthems A Hell on Earth and The Final Blood Bath, impenetrable walls of sonic violence and epileptic rhythm.
A year after the EP Warning (Clay), and in particular the song In Defense of Our Future, Discharge veered towards heavy metal, confirmed with the single The Price of Silence (Clay). Later, leader Kelvin Morris would move their sound's center of gravity towards old school hard rock, obtaining mixed but sometimes spectacular results (like on 1985 single Ignorance). The album Grave New World (Roadrunner) is still a tribute to hard rock.
Discharge reformed for Massacre Divine (Clay), which presents a pale imitation of their sound. New Age and Terror Police are still worthy additions to their catalog of cutting rallying cries. Their next reunion, for Discharge (Sanctuary, 2002), was less happy.
Discharge's greatest legacy is inspiring grindcore and speedmetal, and being a beacon of honesty in the chaos of hypocrisy of British punk-rock.

I Discharge, gruppo estremista della corrente Crass, si misero in luce nel

Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing (Clay), e in
particolare con gli anthem A Hell On Earth e The Final Blood Bath,
muri impenetrabili di violenza sonora a ritmo epilettico.
Un anno dopo con l'EP Warning (Clay), e in particolare il brano
In Defense Of Our Future, i Discharge viravano decisamente verso l'heavymetal,
come confermato dal 45 giri The Price Of Silence (Clay).
In seguito il leader Kelvin Morris avrebbe spostato sempre piu`
il baricentro del loro sound verso l'hardrock vecchia maniera, ottenendo
risultati alterni, ma talvolta spettacolari (come nel 45 giri
Ignorance del 1985).
Ancora un tributo all'hardrock e` l'album Grave New World (Roadrunner).
I Discharge si riformarono per Massacre
Divine (Clay), che propone pero` una pallida copia del sound di allora.
New Age e Terror Police sono comunque valide aggiunte al loro
catalogo di comizi lapidari. Meno felice invece la reunion successiva, quella
di Discharge (Sanctuary, 2002).
Il merito piu` grande dei Discharge rimane quello di aver ispirato il grindcore
e lo speedmetal, e di essere stati un faro di onesta` nel marasma di ipocrisia
del punk-rock Britannico.
