The Kilburns (and later the Blockheads), one of the memorable pub-rock bands, revolved around the repugnant Ian Dury; before becoming the author of the notorious anthem Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll (1977) and caustic hits like Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick (1978), he was the first prophet of the ugly aesthetic, with demented, provocative rock, infused with calypso, bebop, and funk, and with an "evil clown" act under which lurks an eccentric but sincere humanitarianism. Dury died in the year 2000. | I Kilburn (e poi i Blockheads), uno dei complessi storici del pub-rock, ruotavano attorno all'orripilante Ian Dury, che, prima di diventare l'autore del famigerato inno Sex Drugs And Rock And Roll (1977) e di caustici hit come Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick (1978), era stato il primo profeta dell'estetica del brutto, con un rock demenziale e provocatorio, infarcito di calypso, bebop e funk, e con un act da clown dell'orrore sotto il quale si cela un bislacco ma sincero umanitarismo.
