Yemeni-Israeli vocalist Ofra Haza became a star by singing traditional Jewish psalms arranged for the disco by state-of-the-art producers. Yemenite Songs (1987), also known as Fifty Gates of Wisdom (1989), offers inspired singing and inept dance rhythms. Desert Wind (1990) and Kirya (1992) offer only the latter.
Haza died in 2000.
