John Otway is a whimsical English folksinger who often records with
multi-instrumentalist Wild Willy Barrett. Otway's
first singles, including Green Green Grass Of Home,
Turning Point,
Headbutts,
plus the mad instrumental I Did It Otway, were collected on
I Did It (Stiff, 1981).
John Otway & Wild Willy Barrett (Polydor, 1977) remains his best album,
boasting crazy folk ditties such as Really Free.
Deep & Meaningless (Polydor, 1978) has
Running From The Law.
Where Did I Go Right (Polydor, 1979), with Ollie Halsall on guitar
and Morgan Fisher on keyboards, features The Highwayman and
Makes Good Music.
Way & Bar (Polydor, 1980), most of which resurfaced on
Deep Thought (Polydor, 1980), is his second best album.
All Balls & No Willy (Empire, 1982) was recorded without the partner,
as the title implies.
Cor Baby (Strike Back, 1990) is a career anthology.
In the 1990s Otway resurfaced first with the rock opera
Cheryl (Strike Back, 1991) and then with the collection of covers
Under The Covers (Otway, 1992).
