Tears For
Fears (Curt Smith & Roland Orzabal) came out in 1983 with a finely neurotic
funk-rock which upset the conventions of the genre deriving lyrics from
psychoanalysis and musics from the Peter Gabriel, Robert Fripp and Robert Wyatt
tradition.
On
The Hurting (Mercury, 1983)
their “primal pop”, more for adults than teenagers, payed nevertheless the successes of The Hurting and Mad World.
Songs From The Big Chair (Mercury, 1985)
did even better commercially than the predecessor,
ordaining them as synthpop stars with Shout, Head Over Heels and Everybody
wants to rule the world (their most successful hit). Those sophisticated
arrangements led them to
Seeds of Love (Fontana, 1989), a sequence of
songs (among the others: Advice For The Young At Heart, Woman In Chains,
Sowing The Seeds Of Love), structured in the form of a suite.
After the breaking up
with Smith, Orzabal recorded, with the help of the multi-instrumentalist
Alan Griffiths,
Elemental (Mercury, 1993) and
Raoul And The Kings Of Spain (Epic, 1995), two albums of easy-listening inspired by David Bowie,
Elton John and the Beatles.
Tears For Fears returned after a decade with Everybody Loves A Happy Ending (2004).

I Tears For Fears (Curt Smith e Roland Orzabal) si misero in luce nel 1983 con
un funk-rock sottilmente nevrotico che sconvolgeva le convenzioni del genere
traendo le liriche dalla psicanalisi e le musiche dalla tradizione di

Su The Hurting (Mercury, 1983) quel loro "primal pop",
piu` da adulti che da adolescenti, frutto` cionondimeno i successi di
The Hurting e Mad World.
Songs From The Big Chair (Mercury, 1985) fece anche meglio, conscrandoli fra le star del synthpop con Shout,
Head Over Heels e Everybody Wants To Rule The World (il loro massimo hit).
Quegli arrangiamenti sofisticati li
