San Francisco-based
Tony! Toni! Tone'!, centered around two brothers and their cousin,
were a heavily syncopated funk-soul group with hip-hop inspired drumming
that became stars via the singles
Little Walter (basically a cover with vocals of Ramsey Lewis' instrumental Wade in the Water of 1966), off their debut album
Who? (1988), whose sound was crafted by Denzil Foster and Thomas McElroy,
Feels Good, off the self-produced The Revival (1990),
and
If I Had No Loot, off Sons of Soul (1993).
They ended their career with House of Music (1996).
