DJ Assault is the Detroit duo
of dj Craig Adams and producer Ade' "Mr De" Mainor.
In 1995 they released the influential
techno anthems Crank This Mutha and Technofreak, although they
became stars with
Ass-n-Titties and Sex on the Beach.
Adams' style (influenced by the hip-hop culture) was christened "ghetto tech".
Belle Isle Tech (Electrofunk, 1997) is a double-disc: one CD of raps and one CD of old releases.
His main experiment are contained in the five volumes of self-defined "shit":
Straight Up Detroit Shit, Vol 1 (Electrofunk, 1996),
Straight Up Detroit Shit, Vol 2 (Electrofunk, 1997),
Straight Up Detroit Shit, Vol 3 (Electrofunk, 1997),
Straight Up Detroit Shit, Vol 4 (Electrofunk, 1998),
which includes 99 tracks,
Straight Up Detroit Shit, Vol 5 (Electrofunk, 1999).
After Mr De left in 2000, DJ Assault released
Jefferson Ave (Intuit-Solar, 2001), an accessible collection that
includes the no-frills dances of Accelerated Funk and
Bounce.
Adams released countless mix discs, for example
Off the Chain for the Y2K (Intuit-Solar, 2000).
