Boston-based Louisiana-born singer-songwriter
Mary Gauthier had mostly her turbulent
life story to commend herself when she debuted with
Dixie Kitchen (1997) and Drag Queens in Limousines (1999).
Lucinda Williams and the alt-country movement
inspired Filth & Fire (2002), perhaps her artistic peak.
Mercy Now (2005), Between Daylight and Dark (2007),
and The Foundling (2010) continued to mine her stereotypical milieu
of rejects and misfits but still failed to add enough musical nuances to make
it interesting as a listening experience.
