The silky New York-based singer
Madeleine Peyroux debuted with a blues album,
Dreamland (1996), mostly grounded in the 1920s.
It took eight years to get out of that time warp:
Careless Love (2004) and
Half The Perfect World (2006) were instead eclectic collections of
covers by contemporary (rock, jazz and pop) artists.
Bare Bones (2009) and the inferior
Standing on the Rooftop (2011)
were jazz albums mostly entirely composed by her (and guests).
