Boston's singer-songwriter Susan Tedeschi led the Susan Tedeschi Band on Just Won't Burn (1998), a blues collection including a few originals. It was followed by the mostly cover albums Wait for Me (2002) and Hope and Desire (2005). Back to the River (2008) included three major songwriting collaborations: Back to the River, with Tony Joe White, Learning the Hard Way, with Gary Louris of the Jayhawks, and Butterfly, with her husband Derek Trucks.

She joined her husband, the Allman Brothers Band's slide guitarist Derek Trucks, to form an old-fashioned eleven-piece blues band full of blues-rock veterans, and old-fashionedly named it Tedeschi Trucks Band, that debuted on Revelator (2011) with generic soul-rock ballad fare like Midnight in Harlem and Until You Remember in the vein of Delaney & Bonnie, Eric Clapton and J.J. Cale.
