San Francisco-based singer songwriter Chris Von Sneidern
(a frequent collaborator of Barbara Manning and
John Wesley Harding)
is a purveyor of old-fashioned melodic rock.
Sight & Sound (Heyday, 1993) is a bonanza of majestic pop hooks:
Annalisa, Sight & Sound, Bad Black Lonesome,
Never Again My Love mimick everybody from the Herman Hermits to
Big Star.
Big White Lies (Heyday, 1994) is more surface than content, as Von
Sneidern focuses on the melodies and the arrangements of ditties such as
Roll On and hides behind the curtain.
After the transitional Go (Mod Lang, 1996), Von Sneidern released
his first album recorded with a real band,
Wood And Wire (Mod Lang, 1998), with more rocking material such as
I Can See.
The Knight Of Lines And Proses is a self-compiled anthology.
