Warren G (aka Warren Griffin) emerged in the
early 1990s as a member of
hip-hop trio 213 alongside Nate Dogg and Snoop Dogg.
They only released an EP, St Ides (1994), and much later reunited for
the album The Hard Way (2004).
As Dogg was becoming a rap star, Warren G launched his career with the
hit single Regulate (1994), a collaboration with Nate Dogg,
followed by the best-selling album
Regulate G Funk Era (1994).
But Take a Look Over Your Shoulder (1997) had little to offer: its
main singles were covers.
Despite the constant featuring of Nate Dogg and rap star Snoop Dogg,
Warren G was rapidly forgotten. His albums
I Want It All (1999),
The Return of the Regulator (2001),
In The Mid-Nite Hour (2005) and
The G Files (2009) tried in vain to resurrect his career.
Nonetheless, Warren G was influential in defining the so-called G-Funk style
of rap.
