Ashtray Navigations, the brainchild of super-prolific English multi-instrumentalist Phil Todd, specialized in sloppy droning acid-rock for guitar and synthesizer. His many recordings were of uneven quality (to use a euphemism) but a few stood out: Who's Been Rocking My Dream-Boat (1996), Four Raga Moods (Betley Welcomes Careful Drivers, 1997), Use Copenhagen 69 Guitars and Park Drive Circular Effects Pedals Exclusively (Siltbreeze, 1997), containing the 20-minute Phaser Like A Block Of Salt, Tristes Tropiques (Betley Welcomes Careful Drivers, 2000), with the 19-minute Reel, the 46-minute piece of To Your Fucking Feather'd Wings (Gold Soundz, 2004), You Cannot Tell Cigars By the Picture on the Box (Celebrate Psi Phenomenon, 2004), with the 19-minute An Old Lover The River, the six jams of the monolith that is The Love that Whirrs (Last Visible Dog, 2005), with Directing Hand's drummer Alex Neilson and guitarist Ben Reynolds , Dirt Mummies And Bloody Amps (Freenoise, 2006), with the 20-minute Rock Hair Exotic, the triple-disc A Monument To British Rock (2006), again with Neilson and Reynolds, Four More Raga Moods (Ikuisuus, 2006), Red Culture (Memoirs Of An Aesthete, 2008), with the 25-minute Railroad Poet.
