Irishman Joseph Cassidy is the brain behind Butterfly Child, a project that
started when Cassidy and Gary McKendry, helped by
A R Kane's Rudy Tambala, recorded two EPs
(Flying To Las Vegas, Eucalyptus).
Influenced by James Joyce's narrative style, Cassidy then embarked in the
ambitious project of Onomatopoeia (Rough Trade, 1995).
On the other hand, The Honeymoon Suite (Dedicated, 1996) reveals
a passion for the sophisticated ballad, regardless of intellectual pretenses.
The all-string album that Cassidy had in mind was never completed because the
band broke up and Cassidy relocated to Chicago, where he released
Soft Explosives (Hit It, 1998), another collection of grandiose pop
odes (Big Soft Mouth, Number One, Don't Talk To Me).
