The German duo Das Ich
(vocalist Stefan Ackermann and multi-instrumentalist Bruno Kramm)
belongs to the post-industrial generation.
Imbued with Wagnerian grandeur and English romanticism,
Satanische Verse (Danse Macabre, 1991) is a tentative debut that
nonetheless features the depressed visions of Jericho and
Kain Und Abel
Die Propheten (Danse Macabre, 1992 - Black Orchid, 1996)
contains the apocalyptic ballads Freuel and
Gottes Tod.
A vast improvement led to Staub (Danse Macabre, 1994), a
symphonic work of heroic proportions, particularly unnerving in
Staub and Von Der Armut.
After the EP Das Innere Ich (Danse Macabre, 1996), the album
Egodram (Edel, 1997) introduced harsher tones
(electronic noises, disjointed rhythms) and
spawned the club singles
Egodram, Destillat and Kindgott.
Morgue (Danse Macabre, 1998) marked, instead, a return to a mellower
and darker sound with a sequence of lieder from texts by
the expressionist poet Gottfried Benn.
Re Laborat (Danse Macabre, 2000) is an album of others remixing Das Ich.
