Dimmu Borgir, a Norwegian black-metal band, debuted with
For All Tid (1995) but found their mission with the
majestic melodies and neoclassical orchestration of Stormblast (1996).
The band veered towards pop-metal with Enthrone Darkness Triumphant (1997), with the stately tempo and neoclassical synth lines of opener
Mourning Palace,
but returned to experimenting with the
complex Spiritual Black Dimensions (1999), achieving possibly its
bombastic peak with the
breathtaking progressive tour de force of Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia (2001), featuring a symphonic orchestra
(Fear and Wonder, Sympozium),
and
Death Cult Armageddon (2003), again with a symphonic orchestra (this time
not only as ornamentation but as the main sound).

I Dimmu Borgir sono un complesso di Black Metal proveniente dalla Norvegia.
Essi debuttarono con l'album For All Tid nel 1995.
Nel 1996 pubblicano Stormblast, forse il loro capolavoro grazie alle maestose melodie e alla pregevole orchestrazione neoclassica.
Nel 1997 la band vira verso il popmetal con l'album Enthrone Darkness Triumphant, ma ritornano nel 1999 alla sperimentazione con il complesso lavoro Spiritual Black Dimensions,
raggiungendo possibilmente il picco della loro potenza, con il trascinante progressive tour de force di Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia nel 2001,in collaborazione con una orchestra sinfonica(Fear and Wonder, Sympozium) e con il successivo Death Cult Armageddon del 2003 in cui stavolta l'orchestra sinfonica non Š pi— in secondo piano ma diventa lo strumento principale.
