The Dylans are the ump-th band to come out of
Britain (the country of the everlasting Sixties revival) with a soft, catchy
approach to the fusion of Merseybeat and psychedelia that has been the
main theme of the 1990s' British scene.
The early singles (Godlike, 1991; Planet Love, 1991)
and She Drops Bombs, the standout of The Dylans (Beggars Banquet, 1991),
are as sweet as bubblegum music, as light as muzak.
Guitarist Jim Rodger and vocalist Colin Gregory are quite trivial at their
tools, but the nostalgic effort does pay off. The album has the feeling of
a postcard from another planet.
Grudge is the gem on the more mature
Spirit Finger (Beggars Banquet, 1994).
What is remarkable about these bands is how derivative and predictable they
can sound.
