La Bouche is a duo that was formed in Frankfurt (Germany), but the two are
both black American vocalists:
Melanie Thornton (from South Carolina) and Lane McCray (from Alaska).
Behind them is Frank Farian, the producer who engineered Boney M and Milli
Vanilli.
Sweet Dreams (BMG, 1994) was one of euro-techno's masterpieces:
a pulsating,
catchy, lush rhythm machine. It was followed by the equally engaging and driving
Be My Lover (1995) and by the vastly inferior
Tonight Is the Night (1995),
Fallin' In Love (1995) and I Love To Love (1995).
The first album, Sweet Dreams (RCA, 1996), was one of techno's
bestsellers worldwide.
The duo's golden age ended in 1995. For a few months, La Bouche recycled
remix after remix of their hits. When eventually new songs
(You Won't Forget Me, Moment of Love, SOS)
and a new album,
Moment of Love (RCA, 1997), surfaced, the whole story was quickly
forgotten.
All I Want (2000) introduced new singer Natascha Wright, after
Melanie Thornton left to release her solo single Love How You Love Me.
