British audio-visual technician Andrew Lagowski launched both the dark ambient project of Legion, that released False Dawn (1992) for found sounds and white noise, and especially Leviathan (1996), a six-movement symphony of exoteric electronica, and the project SETI, at the border between techno, ambient and dub.
Andrew Lagowski (better know simply as Lagowski) started his career of
experimental electronic artist in 1990 with two self-produced cassettes,
Nadir (Motorcade) and Lagowski (Mystery Hearsay).
The following year he began releasing the singles that would make him famous
in the world of techno music:
Vermillion (Chromium Industries, 1992),
Storms (Minus Habens, 1992), Formant (1992), Blue Sparks
(Chromium Industries, 1993), Artificial (Disturbance, 1993),
Europa (Minus Habens, 1994), In The Steel Room (1994).
Legion is Lagowski's "dark ambient" project.
False Dawn (Hyperium, 1992) contains the 35-minute
Colossus that samples psychiatric patients, among other found sounds
and white noise.
Die Datenschleuder (Hyperion, 1994) was based on computers.
Leviathan (Side Effects, 1996) is a 6-movement 72-minute symphony of
exoteric electronica.
Under the monicker SETI, Lagowski has released
The Geometry Of Night (Incoming, 1996), where he experimented with
a sophisticated muzak at the border between techno, ambient and dub.
Knowledge (Ash, 1998), Above Black (Ash, 1999) and
Pod (Ash, 2000) costitute a trilogy.
Lagowski's Ashita (Side Effects, 1997) features the
moody cosmic music of
Replicator, but little else noteworthy.
S.E.T.I. has later released Above Black (Ash, 1998),
Pod (Ash, 2000),
and Probe (Vivo, 2004), a collaboration with Si_COMM.
TZ (Noise Museum, 1999) and
Digital Force Planning (HTz, 2004) came out under his last name,
Lagowski.
Legion returned with Zodiac (Auf Abwegen, 2003).
The Fuschia DVD contains the video used for live shows.
Sacred Islands Of The Mad (Dark Entries, 2010), credited to
Nagamatzu, collects early recordings from the 1980s.
