Japanese band Number Girl (vocalist Shutoku Mukai, guitarist Hisako Tabuchi, bassist Kentaro Nakao] and drummer Ahito Inazawa) were an influential rock band that released the melodic School Girl Bye Bye (1997), influenced by Husker Du's punk-pop, the Dinosaur Jr-influenced School Girl Distortional Addict (1999), with Toumei Shoujo, the noisy and abrasive Sappukei (2000), with their classics Urban Guitar Sayonara and Brutal Number Girl, and Num-Heavymetallic (2002).

guitarist and vocalist Shutoku Mukai formed the prog-rock band Zazen Boys that released Zazen Boys (2004), II (2004), III (2006) and 4 (2008).
