Australian vocalist Sia Furler, coming from the
acid-jazz and downbeat scenes, debuted with
OnlySee (Flavoured Records, 1997), mostly composed by Jesse Flavell,
and began to display her original persona on
Healing Is Difficult (Columbia Records, 2001), containing
Taken for Granted.
Her pop career took off in earnest with
Colour the Small One (Universal, 2004), that contains
Breathe Me,
Some People Have Real Problems (Hear/Monkey Puzzle Records, 2008)
and
We Are Born (Monkey Puzzle Records, 2010).
Sia had become a songwriter, although relying on the contributions of
friends such as Greg Kurstin and Sam Dixon, and her songs fit the generation
of Rihanna, Beyonce and Katy Perry (all three of which covered Sia songs).
She also cowrote songs for Britney Spears, David Guetta and Flo Rida.
1000 Forms of Fear (Monkey Puzzle Records, 2014)
consecrated her as one of the reigning voices of pop muzak.
After the terrible albums
This Is Acting (2016) and
Everyday Is Christmas (2017),
Sia directed her first film, Music (2021).
