Windi, the one-man project by Norwigian guitarist Terje "Valfar" Bakken,
fused folk elements and black metal on
Soknardalr (Head Not Found, 1997)
and especially Arntor (1999).
He basically coined his own subgenre, epic Viking metal, and continued to explore
it on the
better produced 1184 (2001) and Likferd (2003).
Terje Valfar died in 2004.
