Aspera Ad Astra was a Philadelphia quartet (singer Mike Robinson, guitarist Justin Tripp) inspired by Mercury Rev on their debut album Peace (Audio Information Phenomena, 1998).

After replacing Robinson with Drew Mills, they renamed themselves Aspera for the poppier and less innovative Sugar & Feathered (Big Wheel Recreation, 2001 - Jagjaguwar, 2002).

Oh Fantastica (Jagjaguwar, 2003) presented a new band (the singer had left) and a new sound (much more electronic and much less psychedelic).

Drew Mills formed the Blood Feathers with and Ben Dickey and released Curse & Praise (2006).
