Canadian singer-songwriter
Kathryn Calder, who had been the keyboardist for Immaculate Machine
before becoming
New Pornographers's vocalist and keyboardist,
debuted solo with
Are You My Mother? (2010),
an odd hybrid of new wave, introspective singer-songwriting and folk-pop
(Slip Away).
The more extreverted arrangements of Bright and Vivid (2011) yielded
the booming synth-pop of Who Are You, the humbler but still poppy
City of Sounds and
Walking in my Sleep, and one hermetic composition such as
All the Things.
