West-Coast rap was supposed to be rejuvinated by
Dilated Peoples (rappers "Evidence" and "Rakaa" and
turntablist DJ Babu). The promises of
Third Degree (1997) and Work the Angles (1998)
are hardly visible on the bland The Platform (2000),
featuring beats created by Los Angeles' producer Alan-Daniel "Alchemist" Maman,
and
following albums, The Expansion Team (2001) and
Neighborhood Watch (2004) and 20/20 (2006), are simply predictable and derivative.
